Whose Side Are We On? The War in Ukraine and the Crisis of the Left 

Blinded by American Exceptionalism, however, many of the U.S. Left are not able to answer the question, and their silence speaks.   We must always oppose empire, under any heading. No nation has the right to dominate another, let alone invade and occupy it.  That was the principle we as leftists affirmed in 2003, when George W. Bush led the United States into a war of aggression against Iraq.

Russia – and Not Just Its Army – Is Headed for a Crisis of Morale

Russia is on the brink of a morale crisis. This amounts to a reckoning that has implications more far-reaching than whether Putin stays in power or manages to end his Ukrainian war on terms favorable to Moscow. The truth will come out, eventually. It always does, and in every country, no matter the hurdles emplaced by state propaganda, censorship, and varieties of intimidation. And the truth will be devastating to the Russian mind and soul, far more upsetting than even the economic and other hardships now crashing down on Russia.

Climate Change Is Triggering a New Refugee Crisis—Inside the US 

The headlines in recent weeks read like signs of an impending apocalypse. Sixteen years to the day since Hurricane Katrina slammed into New Orleans, the Louisiana coast was again battered by Hurricane Ida, one of the strongest storms ever recorded in the state. Wildfires in California have blanketed the western U.S. with smoke, prompting mass evacuations. In New York, floodwaters poured into the subway and through the windows of basement apartments.
