We have critiqued Sanders at length here and then turned around and suggested what-the-heck he run in 2020. Is his ‘Our Revolution’ and the semantics of his use of the term ‘socialism’ a cooptation of ‘revolution (then the CIA could hardly ask for more) by a social democrat (if that, a FDR-ist) or hidden hand signals for a de-coopted ‘revolution’ in disguise. If you use such terminology then so&so’s on the ultra far left will be sure tomisread/take you at your word.
We have been deliberately ambivalent toward Sanders given the way he talks about ‘socialism’ and ‘revolution’ when he has actually changed the meaning of those terms. We speak from a perspective that asks if real socialism requires a real revolution. Continue reading ” Sanders double whammy”
Sanders had a great opportunity but his sideways style coopting the ideas of ‘revolution’ (and now ‘the International’) seems to one aspect of a crippled left. Sanders could do a lot of good, but his jargon is wrong, and harmful. Let him honestly preach a ‘new deal’ platform and not corrupt the language of socialism. Sanders’ platform would take a generation or more to do anything but we are out of time.
The american public is so confused it can’t even stage a protest march with a permit, let alone revolt in the streets as in France…Looking at the French riots, despite their discombobulation of the climate issue, we can see what should be happening in the US, but people are anesthetized by the Sanders jargon into thinking they are doing some revolutionary. Sanders is basically putting the brakes on any crisis intervention and in the process making a lot of money off his books, stoking the hopes of flat tire socialists. Now the hype has moved on to the Green New Deal, a great idea, but not enough.
When we stand together there is nothing we cannot accomplish. Our Revolution will reclaim democracy for the working people of our country by harnessing the transformative energy of the “political revolution.” Through supporting a new generation of progressive leaders, empowering millions to fight for progressive change and elevating the political consciousness, Our Revolution will transform American politics to make our political and economic systems once again responsive to the needs of working families.
