The tag ‘climate change’ is going to need to shift to ‘climate catastrophe’ and while it is important to note the rising tide of climate activism with its robust emphasis on non-violence the gruesome reality is that revolutionary action is needed as time runs out and the reality dawns the Green New Deal may not make it, at least in the US, any time soon.
At this late date the news outlets and political landscape still cannot even discuss the issues.
Marxists have gotten a lot of chaff here, but they tend to be the only group that can in principle respond to this crisis with the revolution needed. In reality they are frozen in place. We have suggested an upgrade from the stale theory that has stalled their activism: the hard reality is that old-fashioned formulations of marxism/leninism are filtered out immediately in public consciousness.
Reorienting the classic legacy is therefore the only option. Our explorations of ‘democratic market neo-communism’ are based on a critique of marxist theories but given that an openness to the larger empirical base of that legacy.
The question lurks: can a revamped left be ready for the revolutionary times to come. More, is there an avenue to revolutionary response? It must be ready to guarantee it won’t turn into a stalinist nightmare redux. The solution to the problem is within range, if the same old same old of stale boilerplate can be set aside.
