I am an ‘atheist’ (in quotation marks, the term is almost as confused as that of ‘god’)and accept the issue of a singularity, and am left to wonder at the implication that evidence of a singularity has anything to do with theology. Darwinists have distorted the question, but so have the proponents of ID and creationism. These tactics by ID-ists and Christian apologists have delayed the acceptance of their own thesis, and/or the mystery/reality of design in cosmology and in evolution itself. The visible universe does indeed according to science emerged in a singularity, the Big Bang but this has nothing to do with the primitive and now archaic ‘divinity’ emerging at the dawn of monotheism in the Axial Age. We indeed confront here alternative perspectives, the scientific evidence of a singularity and a Kantian critique of metaphysics that sees an antinomial paradox in the whole issue of a cosmological beginning in time. The issue of ‘god’ is so completely muddled, prejudicial and biased toward religious politics that its use serves no purpose for any kind of explanation. The Big Bang is an ironically an obstacle to understanding the cosmic whole, but the theological predation of the issue is in part responsible for driving figures like Dawkins to an opposite extreme.

The singularity in question isn’t the supposed future singularity imagined by transhumanists, but the singularity at the foundation of the Big Bang.
