This situation shows the dangers of promoting nonviolence as an activist abstraction nonetheless in a uniquely ambiguous and dangerous context. These peace groups protest shipping arms to Ukraine, as if the result could be anything but genocide and the tactics of Putin wrought large. But clearly the dangers of escalation are real. The question, for example, of a no-fly zone shows the dangers. But the US has so far managed a path between escalation and the destruction of Ukraine and its people.
This is not a repeat of the Vietnam era and its peace movements. We see an altogether malign and uniquely dangerous situation that requires thinking beyond pacifist confusions.
