One of the functions of war hysteria is to create a giant atavistic and nationalist fog that erases public attention and consciousness regarding underlying social, political economic, and environmental oppression within and across nation states. The reigning oppression and exploitation structures – themselves the taproot of war, imperialism, and empire – of course do not actually go away amidst international conflict. They just get more lost in translation than usual.
