Critique of the Misunderstanding Concerning Marx’s Base-Superstructure Spatial Metaphor

This is a perfect example of the hopeless confusion of theory that lies at the core of Marxism. Even some of the most important later Marxists are critical here.
The whole notion is hopeless confusion and suffers the obvious flaw that the structure of society can’t be correlated with economic structures. The latter are simply a set of subprocesses inside a different and more complex system.
Why not just drop all of it and start over with simpler descriptions of social conditions and a blueprint for a socialist system under construction?
I first studied this fifty years ago and it is still as mystifying now as it was then.
Marxists exhaust the energy of leftists with a debilitating repetition of arguments posed as some kind of profundity.
The whole discussion needs to move away from this quagmire to focus on something more useful .
