This is an apocalyptic misanalysis by Hedges obsessed with non-violence as an absolute, against both left and right. The battle for freedom was not a Gandhian struggle, and it is wrong to class it together with fascism.
The crisis coming might be better off with a revolutionary intervention and the way to do that isn’t going to Gandhian.
But the point is clear: violence without a focus is obviously madness. But the American revolutionary and Civil Wars were the basis of their futures and in the calamity coming a comparable response is needed.
