Trying to force society into materialism in order to construct socialism is one of the dumbest moves of the last two centuries, and good reason for the failure of socialism in the hands of stupid marxists. A balanced and neutral view would be better, a robust secularism that is able to see that debating materialism versus idealism is mostly futile, but an exaggerated set of perspectives of the age of Hegel and its aftermath. Taken to extremes, materialism and idealism end up in contradictions, and collapse.
