Progress and the ‘eonic sequence’

Arguing with pinker is not very hard or constructive.
But the idea of evolution and progress won’t go away: if we adopt the view of the eonic effect and of the idea of the ‘eonic evolution of civilization’ the idea of progress is much more easier brought to bear on the progression/progress of civilization. The limited view of modernity versus the middle ages falls away and we see ‘progress’ associated with the stepping stone progression of the ‘eonic sequence’. It is easy to critique pinker, but it is no so easy to look at the overall emergence of civilization and not see ‘progress’ of some kind, and we would almost need a new word given the confusions of the older term…
