Chavismo was never really a socialist movement, and is in the end vulnerable on that score: moving toward a real socialism, done right, could complete the transformation and in the process save chavismo: but as our model of ‘democratic market neo-communism’ suggests the right combinations are tricky and complex, and the path to confusion all too easy.
