Why is Alternet so confused about the meaning of ‘democratic socialism’?

Socialism is being coopted semantically to mean ‘social democracy’ or even FDR-style platforms.
It is not use trying to take the term away from its history, such as that of the bolshevik era. We can argue that bolshevism wasn’t socialism because, etc..
But the term ‘socialism’ shouldn’t be so watered down: it refers to the expropriation of capital and (large-scale) property. In fact, the term in that range of meanings remains undefined and we have no idea how to construct a socialist society, but to make the term mean social democracy will backfire in the end: the capitalists will destroy all such gains…
